Gel Nails Vs Acrylic Nails

Nail art has gone way ahead beyond the conventional method of only applying nail paint. Now, you literally don’t need to possess a good set of nails to beautify them because now there’s the option of gel nails and acrylic nails. Both look so beautiful and so real that most would not even be able to make out the difference. Artificial nails are found in abundance, are not that expensive and can be easily applied onto your nails. Most professional nail salons are apt at creating beautiful nails by using the artificial ones especially on special occasions, festivals or even on weddings, where the demand for these artificially enhanced nails can be easily gauged.

Though most nail salons give you the option to choose between acrylic or gel nails, however, it is always useful to know which may suit your nails more and will work for a longer period of time.

Both gel and acrylic nails are equally popular, though acrylic nails are being used for a much longer period than gel nails. The basic difference in both is their forms. Gel nails are obviously in gel form and are made from a pre-mixed polymer and monomer gel, which is applied to the nails and then cured either under UV lights or with a special gel activator in case of non-UV cured gel nails.

Where acrylic nails are concerned, they are basically made from a mixture of liquid acrylic and polymer and once the mixture is applied it usually gets set within minutes. Both the gel and acrylic nails help in lengthening your short nails, making them stronger and obviously adding sheen to your nails.

Though both make your nails look glorious and stunning, there are quite a few basic differences in both of them and it can get difficult to pin point which one is better, because both have their pros as well as cons. Gel nails are usually considered to look more natural over acrylic and they even involve less damage to the natural nails. Also, one cannot ignore the fact that gel nails do not emit fumes or odors as acrylics do and gels naturally have a more clear, shiny and non-yellowish finish. But the clean and shiny appearance doesn’t come cheap and it is any day more expensive than acrylics. Since gel nails need to be usually cured under UV light, they require more maintenance as well. When you want to remove them, the best way is to visit a nail salon and let a technician do the job. They exactly know how to get it removed without damaging the cuticle or the natural nail.

Acrylic on the other hand is more affordable and is widely available too. A lot of nail salons also use acrylic nails since the nails need to be roughened a bit followed by the coating of the chemicals onto the nails. With acrylic you can choose from a variety of designs such as white tips, French tips and even nail repairs. Acrylic nails are also long lasting and durable as is the case with gel nails. A great polish can further accentuate the look of your acrylic nail. However, when using acrylic nails, you need to be careful of getting them removed from a technician since improper removal can result in damaging your real nails. Also, in comparison to gel nails, acrylic nails do not look as real or shining and if not done properly they can also look quite fake at times. But irrespective of whether you choose gel or acrylic, you are guaranteed to come out of the nail salon with a set of beautiful and stunning nails.
